WHAT MONEY CAN'T BUY

We live at a time when everything can be bought and sold. Market and market values have come to govern our lives as never before. Today buying and selling no longer applies to materialistic goods alone but increasingly governs the whole of life. It's not a deliberate choice but we really need to ask ourselves, do we want to live this way?

Growing greed is converted into needs and has somehow detached us from morals. Admission of our child to a privileged university, pregnancy through surrogacy, Fast track passes for the shows, parks, airports, VIP car parking, Buying the insurance policy of an elderly to get the after death benefits, paying to get the right to hunt endangered animals, paying for child's good grades, getting tradable pollution permits, etc are the non-ending issues of our daily life which can be bought through money.

Money can buy us all these but not the real happiness. We all know money is important but there are certainly other things which money cannot buy.
We can buy a house but not a home.
We can buy a bed but not a good sleep.
We can buy books but not the knowledge or talent.
We can buy designer clothes but not inner beauty.
We can buy adulation but not respect.
We can buy the trappings of high society but not the character or integrity.
We can buy the thrills but not the inner peace.
We can buy acquaintances but not friends.
We can buy companionship but not love.
We can buy someone's service but not his/her loyalty.
We can buy medicines but not good health.
We can buy vacations to our favorite destinations but not a close-knit family.
We can buy expensive watches but not our time, every one minute we are closer to our dying. Our life starts to fade away the moment we are born. So why not to make our life more meaningful by our Good thoughts, Good deeds, and Good words, which is the base of humanity. We should use our talents wisely and well. We should have a cheerful and grateful attitude towards life. The greed ruins our characters, spoils our lives, and harms us.

Today's world is full of temptations so are we always discontented. In our increasingly materialistic world, where money is often equated with success and happiness, our children should learn to treasure the important values to become good human beings and to lead meaningful lives.
From the very beginning, they should be taught that what pocket means and how should they spend it. They should be taught that every passing year they will grow more than the last year, so they should feel the pleasure in reaching out to help others. If we don't have money to give to charity we can share our time and give love and happiness to others. I will make my idea clear by a story.

Ruhi's 18th Birthday. She was blessed to have everything- a big house, cars, maids, pets, all sorts of toys and gadgets. On her 18th birthday, her Dad wanted to gift her an expensive car that would belong to her only, as she was now 18 can have an official permit to drive. Her Dad told her to call all her friends and cousins and throw a big party. Ruhi was displeased to celebrate her birthday the way her father wanted. Although she was from a wealthy family but was always missing her parent's time, as they both were working and hardly spend time together.

Ruhi asked her father - Can we have a day together in an old age home? Ruhi's Dad was surprised to hear that. Ruhi said- Dad I want to spend time with the elderly people as I miss my grandparents who are unfortunately no more with us. I want to celebrate my birthday along with them. I don't want to waste all your hard-earned money on a party or an expensive car. Isn't this a much better way of using money than to buy costly things which we don't really need? If you really want to spend some amount please do buy something of their needs or give money to educate and feed poor children. I have everything, Dad. Ruhi's upbeat attitude made her Dad glad and delighted. He bussed her on her forehead and said - What a wise girl you are! I wanted to give you a present but you gave me a much bigger present today. Thank you, darling! You made me understand - What real happiness is! What money cannot buy!

Beyond the point, Live your best life but make sure in order to earn money you don't miss out on the precious things which money can't buy. Our lives can be rich even if we don't have a lot of money. We are well settled, we have our family and friends around. We should always build a good character with good values and help others as much as possible. We should be always grateful for what all we have!!
